Letter from Lothar - December inSight

Welcome to our final edition of inSight for 2022.

What happened? It is nearly Christmas and New Year again, and there are still so many things to complete - in business and in private life. What about that project that is due to be finished? What about Christmas presents – have you completed your Christmas shopping already? Stress...hurry...no time..?

STOP! At least long enough to read through our final newsletter of 2022.

Recently, I had the chance to take part in the Air Cargo Forum & Transport Logistic Americas event in Miami, organized by TIACA, to represent the Cargo iQ organization. We learned about many new and continued initiatives of the industry, and we met with industry leaders for many interesting discussions. We generated some interest from potential members, which we will follow up with further meetings and discussions.

During the course of December, I will have the opportunity to participate in a FIATA meeting. I will use this slot to introduce Cargo iQ and to generate interest within the forwarder community in the excellent work Cargo iQ is doing on behalf of the members and the air cargo industry. Hopefully we can convince some of the forwarders represented by FIATA – in particular the SMEs – to join Cargo iQ either directly as forwarders or indirectly represented by an intermediary.

As a team, we are continuing our work. Same as our readers, we were busy finalizing our budget for 2023, which our members approved. We are in the middle of our preparation for the next working group meetings in January 2023, to be held in Abu Dhabi. Our member Etihad deserves a very big THANK YOU for organizing and sponsoring this important meeting. During the meetings we will continue ongoing projects to achieve 100 percent reporting. We are also planning to start on the sub-Working Groups Door-to-Door (D2D) to investigate the requirements and enhance D2D specifications to allow for planning and measurement when more than one forwarder is involved in the movement of cargo on a D2D basis.

Finally, we are also planning for a Cargo iQ Advanced Training session to take place on 16th January in Abu Dhabi just before the working group, and on 20th January in Dubai. If you would like to know more about the training and join a session in the future please register with Laura Rodriguez(rodriguezl@iata.org) and we will notify you of upcoming training sessions.

Have you had a chance to look at our video, recorded for our 25th anniversary? You surely appreciated the statements as to why our members choose to be part of Cargo iQ and the added value they gain from the membership. Please share the video with your teams and friends.

I’ll let you enjoy the rest of this newsletter, but not before I – on behalf of the entire Cargo iQ Team – have the chance to wish you, your loved ones, your colleagues, and your friends a peaceful holiday season and a great start to the New Year.
