A successful year for Cargo iQ

December 19, 2019

Cargo iQ has had a busy and interesting year welcoming changes to its membership board, adding members and launching a new solution for small and medium size freight forwarders.

In May, Cargo iQ announced a change in leadership of its membership board with representatives from Emirates SkyCargo and Kuehne + Nagel taking two key positions.

Henrik Ambak, Senior Vice President of Cargo Operations Worldwide at Emirates SkyCargo, was appointed Chair and Kerstin Strauss, Vice President and Head of Global Air Logistics Operations at Kuehne + Nagel, was named Vice-Chair.

“They have brought new insights to the board, allowing us to revaluate what we are doing, and it has also reconfirmed that we are heading in the right direction,” said Ariaen Zimmerman, Executive Director, Cargo iQ.

This year Cargo iQ announced new members into the community; WiseTech Global, MAB kargo and Royal Air Maroc (RAM) all joined up.

“All three have added value, expertise and knowledge to the membership group,” said Zimmerman.

“The membership is strong, and we would still like to grow the membership with meaningful members that are dedicated to what we are doing,” said Zimmerman.

“These things are really positive, and we see members reengage with the group.”

In March, Cargo iQ launched a pilot for a new small and medium enterprise (SME) solution to provide better planning and control options to SME forwarders who work with member airlines on a small-scale, or regional basis.

“The SME project pilot has been really successful, and we expect a very positive uptake on the new service going forward,” said Zimmerman.

All stakeholders in the air cargo industry have had a challenging 12 months, but the outlook by analysts is generally a bit more positive for the year ahead.

Cargo iQ held two successful working groups in Prague, and Kuala Lumpur, in May and November, respectively, which continue to go from strength to strength and a new working methodology has been warmly welcomed by members.

Zimmerman said he is looking forward to 2020 and is excited about the direction that Cargo iQ is heading in, and about the new initiatives the group is launching in the early part of the year.
